Till now, the practical examinations of students appearing for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) were held at the home centers itself, but now from this year, the board is planning to conduct practical examinations at external centres, just like theory papers.
According to the sources, the CBSE will bring new changes in the marking system of practical examinations, and are likely to be held at the centres where theory examinations are held.
Students will be given a different admit card for admission to the centre of their practical exams. Of late, it has also come forward that there were a few schools which did not have laboratories to conduct practical examinations. Students of such schools would be sent to other schools to appear for their practicals. No practical exam will be held at such centres.
Besides, it has also been mulled that students would be made to do projects in the classrooms itself. Students taking help of professionals in making their projects is an open secret. Keeping this in view, students would be given such practicals that can be made in the class and completed there only from now onwards.

Navdeep Kaur, a chemistry teacher at a private school, said: “In most of the schools, practical exams were held on paper only. Some schools do not even have laboratories. The board had been receiving numerous complaints regarding the conduction of practical exams in such a manner. Keeping all this in view, it has been decided to hold practical exams at external centres just like theory exams.”
Practicals for humanities too
- This year the board is also planning to introduce practical and project work in the evaluation of humanities stream
- Practicals or project work will be introduced subjects such as languages and social science
- Besides, it has also been mulled that students would be made to do projects in the classrooms itself
