British Council organized UK-India Policy Dialogue in higher education

Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar, among the Indian educationists and officials, interacted with a visiting delegation of vice-chancellors of 20 leading UK universities to connect with Indian higher education sector.

The delegation is on a five-day visit to India starting from September 02, 2019, under UK India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI), organised by the British Council. UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) works with the aim of enhancing educational linkages between India and the UK.

The purpose of the visit is to understand trends, collaborative opportunities, reforms, regulatory environment and new national initiatives in higher education in India.

Prof. Akhtar expressed her thoughts on current higher education policy and initiatives of the Government of India in this regard. She also apprised the British delegation about the ongoing academic and research activities at Jamia Millia Islamia.

She briefed the delegation about the collaborative tie-ups JMI has with foreign universities and stressed the need for exploring opportunities for collaboration in research and exchange of faculty as well as students with UK universities.

The discussion also revolved around the broad principles and potential implications of both EQUIP and the Draft National Educational Policy.
