Maharashtra: Maharashtra school education department has been asked by the teachers to start an educational channel of its own to use for teacher training. Yesterday, was the day 1 of the five-day training programme on Vande Gujarat, a Gujarat government educational channel.
The Shikshak Parishad from Mumbai has written to the Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training asking them to consider setting up an independent channel. “There are nearly 1 lakh schools and 7 lakh teachers in the state. Gujarat has fewer schools but the government still has a dedicated channel. The channel can be used to air repeats of training sessions too and to reach out to students to teach and train them for competitive exams and scholarships,” stated Anil Bornare from the teachers’ group.
The state has faced strong criticism for selecting Vande Gujarat to impart digital training to Class I and VIII teachers. The opposition had stated that the government went with a Gujarat-based channel despite the reach of Sahyadri, the Marathi channel of Prasar Bharati.
