The University of Delhi (DU) released a tentative admission schedule for the upcoming academic session 2019-20. The registration process this year is slated to begin on April 15, a month ahead of its usual schedule, in view of the general elections.
“Registration for all undergraduate, postgraduate, MPhil and PhD courses begins on April 15 and ends on May 7,” the university said in a statement. Last year, the registration process had begun on May 15.
The online portal for registration will reopen on May 20 for two weeks, to allow students to update their class 12 marks and course preferences in the application. “Extra curricular activities (ECA) and sports trials will start from May 20,” DU said in a statement issued on Friday.

The admission committee this year decided to start ECA and sports quota admissions ahead of the release of cut-off lists. “These admissions are largely based on the trials (50% weightage) and have nothing to do with the cut-off list. So, we will not wait for the cut-off lists and will start admissions under the ECA and sports quota early,” Rajeev Gupta, chairperson of the admission committee, said. Colleges across DU have to admit up to five percent students under the sports and ECA quotas each.
In a relief to students who want to change their stream, DU has decided to reduce marks deduction for a change of stream from five percent to 2 percent. “The admission committee has decided to reduce the deduction of marks from five percent to two percent for a change of stream,” the statement added.
The university also said it has been trying to get in touch with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to be able to use their database to get students mark-sheets and certificates.
