Dehradun: To curb migration as well as to improve the quality of education and skill development in the hill district of Pauri Garhwal, the state government is set to start a model school and a skill development centre. While the school will come up in Jaiharikhal area, the skill development centre will be built in Lawad area of the district.
Both the institutions will be started with the help of Hans foundation, a charitable trust and will have ‘state of the art infrastructure’. CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, who held a meeting with the representatives of Hans said that the school will have all the modern facilities of education needed in today’s world. He said, “The school will spread across 37 acres and will have all the modern technologies used in the field of education today. We also aim to start this school by the next academic session.”

Rawat also announced that the students from underprivileged background will be given preference. “The school will give preference to brilliant students from the economically weaker sections. It will be for students from classes VI to XII who will stay at the school and we will also make sure that one senior government official will give guest lecture at the school each month,” he said.
The idea of model schools isn’t new and was even proposed by former CM Harish Rawat who announced that 475 model schools will be started in all 13 districts. Three years since his announcement, the idea is still to take off while many schools which were started are in a bad state.
Meanwhile, the state government also announced that the course of the skill development centre will be designed based on the industrial needs of the state.
